The Cuban Sandwich: A Delicious Fusion of Flavors

Originating in cafes catering to Cuban workers in Florida, the Cuban sandwich is a delightful marriage of Latin and North American cuisines. This iconic sandwich is a delectable combination of ham, roast pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard, all sandwiched between crispy bread and then pressed. Each bite is a burst of flavors that will transport you to the streets of Havana.

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 soft sandwich rolls
  • 200g ham, thinly sliced
  • 200g roast pork, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup dill pickles, sliced
  • 4 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 4 tbsp butter

Instructions:

  1. Cut the sandwich rolls in half and spread mustard on one side of each roll.
  2. Layer ham, roast pork, Swiss cheese, and pickles on one half of the rolls.
  3. Close the sandwiches with the other half of the rolls.
  4. Spread butter on the outside of each sandwich.
  5. Heat a pan over medium heat and place the sandwiches in the pan.
  6. Place a heavy skillet on top of the sandwiches to press them down.
  7. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted.
  8. Slice the sandwiches diagonally and serve warm.
