Hungarian Goulash

Originating from Hungary, Goulash is a rich and flavorful stew that has been enjoyed for centuries. Traditionally cooked in a cauldron over an open fire by Hungarian herdsmen, this dish combines tender beef, onions, peppers, and paprika for a hearty and comforting meal.

  • 800g beef chuck, cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 400g canned diced tomatoes
  • 500ml beef broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  1. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef cubes and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the beef and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, add the onions and cook until softened. Add the garlic, bell peppers, paprika, and caraway seeds, and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  3. Return the beef to the pot and add the diced tomatoes and beef broth. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 1.5-2 hours or until the beef is tender.
  5. Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve the Hungarian Goulash hot, garnished with fresh parsley. Enjoy!
