Bangladeshi Hilsa Fish Curry

One of Bangladesh's most beloved dishes is Hilsa Fish Curry. This traditional Bangladeshi delicacy is not only flavorful but also a cultural symbol in the country. Ingredients:

  • 500g Hilsa fish, cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely sliced
  • 3-4 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 cup mustard oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat mustard oil in a pan and fry the fish pieces until golden brown. Set aside.
  2. In the same oil, add the sliced onions and green chilies. Cook until the onions are soft and translucent.
  3. Add ginger paste, garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates.
  4. Pour in 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Add the fried fish pieces and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
