Croatian Čobanac
Greetings, my lovely foodies! Today, I am excited to share with you a hearty and flavorful Croatian dish known as Čobanac. Hailing from the beautiful region of Slavonia, Čobanac is a traditional meat stew that is rich in history and taste.
This dish, with its roots deeply set in Croatian heritage, is a favorite choice for gatherings and celebrations. Made with an assortment of meats such as beef, pork, and sometimes game meat, Čobanac is seasoned with paprika, garlic, and other aromatic spices that give it a distinct taste.
Ingredients:
- 500g beef, cubed
- 500g pork, cubed
- 200g game meat (venison or wild boar), cubed
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 red bell peppers, diced
- 2 tbsp sweet paprika
- 1 tbsp hot paprika
- 1 can diced tomatoes
- 500ml beef broth
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Vegetable oil
Instructions:
- In a large pot, heat some vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until translucent.
- Add the garlic, bell peppers, and both paprikas. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Add the beef, pork, and game meat to the pot. Brown the meat on all sides.
- Pour in the diced tomatoes and beef broth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cover the pot and let simmer for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot with crusty bread or over mashed potatoes.
