Nepali Dal Bhat

Greetings foodies! Today, I'm delighted to share with you a traditional meal from Nepal - Dal Bhat. A cornerstone of Nepali cuisine, Dal Bhat is a wholesome and nutritious dish that consists of lentil soup (Dal) and steamed rice (Bhat). Ingredients:

  • 1 cup lentils
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup rice
  • 2 cups water for rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the lentils thoroughly and cook them in a pot with 2 cups of water until soft.
  2. In another pot, wash the rice and cook it with 2 cups of water until fluffy.
  3. In a separate pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds, allowing them to splutter.
  4. Add onions, garlic, and ginger, sauté until golden brown.
  5. Stir in tomatoes, turmeric, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  6. Pour the cooked lentils into the mixture and simmer for a few minutes.
  7. Serve the Dal hot with steamed rice, garnished with fresh coriander leaves.
