Malaysian Satay: A Culinary Delight

Malaysian Satay is a popular street food in Malaysia and a favorite dish at gatherings and celebrations. Ingredients:

  • 500g chicken or beef, cut into bite-sized pieces

  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Skewers, soaked in water
  • For the peanut sauce:
  • 200g roasted peanuts, finely ground
  • 2 tbsp palm sugar
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • Soy sauce to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine the chopped onion, minced garlic, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken or beef pieces and marinate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.
  2. Thread the marinated meat onto the soaked skewers.
  3. Preheat a grill or barbecue to medium-high heat. Grill the skewers for 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the meat is cooked through and slightly charred.
  4. While the skewers are grilling, prepare the peanut sauce. In a saucepan, combine the roasted peanuts, palm sugar, tamarind paste, coconut milk, and soy sauce. Cook over low heat until the sauce thickens.
  5. Serve the grilled Satay skewers with the peanut sauce on the side. Enjoy!
