Traditional Swedish Meatballs Recipe

Swedish Meatballs, also known as 'Köttbullar', are a classic dish hailing from Sweden. These delicious meatballs are typically made with a mix of ground beef and pork, seasoned with a combination of spices like allspice and nutmeg, then cooked to perfection and served with creamy gravy. They are a popular dish worldwide and are often enjoyed with lingonberry jam on the side.

Ingredients:

  • 500g ground beef
  • 250g ground pork
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Butter for cooking

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and milk. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
  2. Add the ground beef, ground pork, onion, egg, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper to the soaked breadcrumbs. Mix until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1-inch in size.
  4. In a large skillet, melt some butter over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides and cooked through.
  5. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  6. To make the gravy, add a little more butter and flour to the skillet to make a roux. Slowly whisk in beef broth and cook until thickened.
  7. Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer for a few minutes in the gravy.
  8. Serve the Swedish Meatballs hot with lingonberry jam on the side.

These Swedish Meatballs are a perfect comfort food that the whole family will enjoy. You can also serve them as an appetizer for parties or gatherings. Skål! (Cheers!)
