The Delightful Russian Pelmeni

Russian Pelmeni are traditional Russian dumplings that are a true comfort food. These bite-sized, savory dumplings are usually filled with a mixture of seasoned meat, such as pork, beef, or lamb, and are typically served with sour cream or butter.

Originating from Siberia, Pelmeni are a staple in Russian cuisine and are often enjoyed during special occasions and holidays. They are perfect for gatherings with family and friends, as making Pelmeni is a fun and social activity.

Ingredients:

  • 500g ground beef
  • 500g ground pork
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pack of round dumpling wrappers
  • Sour cream, to serve
  • Fresh dill, chopped, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, ground pork, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Place a small amount of the meat filling in the center of each dumpling wrapper.
  3. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, then fold over and press to seal, creating a half-moon shape.
  4. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and add the pelmeni, cooking for about 7-9 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
  5. Remove the pelmeni with a slotted spoon and serve hot with sour cream and chopped fresh dill.
